Unhappy Seriously considering selling the Z after Random Multiple Misfire problem is fixed...

I'm just kind of angry right now. I have a LT1 z28(metallic blue - none like it around in my area) 6-speed with SSR Integral rims, a good number of mods and I just don't know wtf to do about this multiple random misfire garbage. I've got cracked sparkplug boots and I'm going to replace them, but i seriously doubt that'll help anything, i'm going to replace a lot of other stuff but again i doubt that it will help much. I dunno, i'm thinking once i get this misfire fixed i'll sell my car and get out of the whole fbody thing for a while.....

what do you all think? (about the random multiple misfire issue and just selling the car) a big part of me feels like i'd regret selling it....

You are like the second or third person that I have read that is having this misfire problem. I hate to see an f-body member decide to go over a misfire. Have you had it scanned to see what is going on. I know one guy had the misfire and he found out he had a stuck lifter.

Well, i'm fearing its the fuel pump.... I crank the car and the thing barely idles... i haven't checked fuel pressure, but i'm afraid that's probably the culprit. Its almost like i have an enormous vaccum leak but i don't, i checked all vaccum hoses....

try unplugging the brake booster line and cranking your car ... it idles a little worse than that

i wouldn't even really call it 'idling'

edit: if i sell the LT1 z28 i will probably get a LS1 z28 but i don't know, im sure those have numerous problems themselves

Common LT1 misfires are plugs, wires and the opti. If plugs and wires don'e fix it I'd go after the opti.

Coil was the culprit when mine was messed up.

hey i have been trying to fix one problem on my car for about a year now, and i wanted to get rid of it, but, its a bad idea, why put all that money into it, and just sell it! i would never get rid of my z now. i would diffently regret it!

Nope! I've never had a problem with mine. Except when i forgot to plug the passenger side coil pack in tightly after a cam swap and it unplugged itself... Other than minor maintenance BS it's been great, and I've modded the **** out of it.

What makes you think the plug wires aren't the problem? I have replaced my wires twice to clear up a missfire and it was a night and day difference both times. The wires were not too old either but arching like crazy right at the boot. If you know they are bad why not just fix them and then see how it acts.

Re: Seriously considering selling the Z after Random Multiple Misfire problem is fixe

I checked the spark plug wire boots last night - no arcing (albeit i only checked for like a minute, not even - when the car was cold). I cranked the car up and it idled like the brake booster line was unhooked and i was dropping seafoam into the booster line. I'm starting to think my fuel pump is bad.... im going to check fuel pressure tonight - im also going to buy some spark plug boots too and re-do some of them.

I'm grabbing for answers here - could a bad opti sensor cause a problem like that???

that reminds me, i need to get a new gas cap too haha - i dont think i've ever replaced my gas cap (111k miles on the car)

Unless the gas cap doesn't seal, don't worry about it. They emmission test it where I live, almost nobody fails because of a leaking gas cap.
