Re: security/vats
just have a tuner on here delete VATS from your PCM with LT1 Edit or tTuner Cat vs buying a 555 timer on e-bay for $40 do you know that a 555 timer sells for $2.75 at Radio Shack? (yes that two dollars and 75 cents)

Re: security/vats
VATS is not what is making your car die after driving 2+ miles, if it is VATS, A, it won't crank, and B, it will run for 2 or three seconds only(if it will crank)
once the engine is running, VATS will not kill it
once the engine is running, VATS will not kill it
Re: security/vats
oook anyother ideas?
when i try to restart nothing is coming on on the dash at all but every once in a while the security light

Re: security/vats
Step 1: make sure you haven't made any silly mistakes.
A. Does the battery have a good charge?
B. Is there gas in the tank?
Step 2: rule out some other possibilities:
A. Is your fuel filter clogged?
B. Is your fuel pump dying? (<----- strong possibility)
C. Is your optispark dying? (<----- another good one)
Step 3: ask some more questions:
A. When you try to start it, does it crank?
B. If it does not crank, do you hear a click, or nothing at all?
C. When it dies, does it stumble, or does it just turn off as if you turned the key to Off?

NOTHING WHEN I TRY TO START no lights no radio, cig lighter works and i get a security light sometimes
no crank
no click
just straight dies, guages stay where they are except the tach goes to 0
Re: security/vats
Charge your battery. It has a little juice left in it, but not enough to crank the engine over.
After it has trickle-charged overnight, try the following:
1. Sit in car in a quiet place. Close windows and doors, turn off fan.
2. Turn key to ON position (not far enough to start, just to on). This is the position where all of the dash lights come on.
3. For 3-5 seconds after you turn the key, you should hear a humming noise from the back of the car. This is the fuel pump. If you don't hear it, time for a new pump.
That's my #1 suspect right now. If you do hear it, start the car and let it idle for a while, and come back with as much detail as you can about how it idles, in particular anything that is different from normal. If idle sounds normal, go drive it. Once the engine is warm, get the revs up and see if it stumbles at higher RPMs. If it does, it's probably time for a new opti.
If everything seems fine for a while, even at high RPMs, but then the engine stumbles and dies after a period of time, wait for a few minutes and try to start it again. If it starts and does the same thing (runs normally for a few minutes and dies), get a new fuel filter.

The radio has a big amplifier in it (or connected to it, depending on the car), and that sucks up a lot of juice too.
If you turn the key back one notch (ACC), the radio might work.
Re: security/vats
I used to have the security light come on quite frequently about 2 years ago and the car would not start it. I had to wait about 10 mintues for the light to go off and then I was able to start the car.
Re: security/vats
My parents had the same thing happen on their 1996 camaro. The had it towed and it was something real stupid. The battery cables were loose allowing it to start sometimes then not others. Something easy to check. Besides side termanals wear out easy and after a few times taking on and off they may not hold as well any more.
Re: security/vats
i had to come to work so i'll mess with it again when i get home i guess and hope for the best. maybe try jumping off my gf's car or something too. also i'll check all the battery hook ups etc. i did install an amp for a sup but then the car ran fine all day for like 50 miles until BOOM it died. when i left home i still had nothing but the security light every once and a while
