Security Light Won't Turn Off After VATS Issue
Security Light Won't Turn Off After VATS Issue
I tried searching this issue and found no help
Last night the car won't start after I just drove it hours before. Security light was blinking so I'm thinking it's a VATS issue. My pellet in the key was worn but i just drove the car earlier with no problems. So i tried to soder some extra metal onto the pellet to make good contact again,,, well the soder iron melted the plastic pellet housing into oblivion destroying it forever.
. However i did measure the resistance at about 6000 Ohms before the meltdown.
. sooo i dig up some resistors lying around the house, connect them until i measured about 6000 ohms and shoved them into the two white wires under the dash for a temporary VATS bypass..thanks to shbox

Car starts right up! yippie. I drive to the dealership, buy a new code 12 key for 25$, goto car, yank out the temporary bypass resistors, put in new key and car starts right up, but security light doesn't go out.
Get home, disconnect battery for a few mins, start car, light still on.
just for kicks, i try the old key with no pellet and guess what, the car starts!!!
The car even starts with the vats wires completley disconnected..
I found this on Shbox's site
"""If the system detects a fault with the lock cylinder circuit after the engine is already running, the SECURITY lamp will light. The engine will be able to be restarted. This is called “fault enable mode”. (The system saw a good reading from the key at one point during a previous ignition cycle before the failure. So, it considers it a problem and not someone trying to steal the car.) When in fault enable mode, PASSKey protection is disabled until the problem is repaired. Once repaired, the SECURITY lamp will go out about after about 1 minute after the key is turned on."""
What problem do I need to "repair"?
How do I turn this horrible security light off?

It's the lock cylinder. The two tiny wires in there break after many years of turning. And if you want to keep VATS, then you have to take the key that comes with the new cylinder, and have the dealer cut you a new key with the right pellet. Otherwise just bypass it permanently, light should go out.
