Security light question

Hello,

I got a quick question about the security light in my 1996 TA. I just bought the car and while I was talking to the previous owner about the security light he said it came on when his dad mistakenly put his keys to his GM truck in the trans am ignition. He said at that point the security light came on and never went off since.

Does this sound legitimate? If this is possible then how do i get the security light to turn off? Thanks

The security light should have gone out when the proper key was used, unless there is something wrong with the VATS system.

Thanks for the link! I don't know what could be wrong with the vats. It starts up every time with no problem however the light is still on. Would trying another key (a wrong key) then the correct key again hurt anything to see if that will turn the light off?

Perhaps that is not what really happened or I suppose the other key could have damaged the contacts in the key cylinder. You can do some testing to find out.
