Security light... (another one)

My security light is always on. It does not affect anything though. The car is a 94 and it came with the Bose, but the CD player has since been replased with a standard tape GM head unit.

Is the security light on because of the diffferent radio?
... and if so how do I get rid of it?

Could be the key/scanner?

Or some other issue?

THANKS!!!

It has nothing to do with the radio. If the VATS module senses a failure in reading the key after the engine is already running, the security lamp will come on, but still let you start the car after that. The system is then basically disabled until you find the problem. Key or key cylinder would be the first suspects. You can always try the resistor bypass.

Check your key resistance . Find the VATS connector under the dash and stick a resistor close to the same value of your key in the connector end opposite of the steering column and see if the light clears. If not, there is most likely a problem with your VATS module. If it does, stick your key in the ign and read it with a meter at the connector side going up to the ign switch. If that doesn't check out then you have a problem either in the switch or wires from it.
