Royal Purple oil?

I just bought some royal purple oil and was wondering if it was alright to just drain the Mobil1 synthetic thats already in there and put the purlpe in. I am pretty sure that it os ok to mix the senthitics a little bit. there shouldnt be too much mixing because most of it will be drained, but its just the remainder of the mobil1 that im worried about.
And is Royal Purple a better brand to be running. i figured i would try it out. people have commented on it giving them more power and everything. plus it costs a little more so i went off the "you get what you pay for" saying.

RP is fine to drain and refill w/. but a bit pricey for a DD. How often do you drive the car? I've heard that there are about 15hp to be gained w/ switching ALL your powertrain fluids over to RP.. Engine oil, trans and rear fluid. I added some water wetter to my coolant also.

i drive the car everyother day for about 30 miles. i have a long drive ahead of me so i want some good oil in there. i will be driving from florida to wyoming in a month so i figured it would be a good idea to have some top notch oil because i will be driving for long periods of time.
i have a 2000 z so how hard would it be to change out the diff. fluid? i almost bought some of that too, but i wasnt sure if my basic set of tools were enough. Thanks alot for the help!

Well draining the diff fluid isn't really hard but it is messy, and it's a pain to refill it from my personal experience... I'd let a shop do it to save me the headache but if you insist... Loosen bolts on the bottom of the diff (13mm I THINK, I can't remember for certain) to get the fluid to draining, there is no drain plug so the diff cap has to be removed... ...Replace gasket and reinstall cap... If you have any kind of pump then you can refill it with ease... If not then prepare yourself for a big mess as there's little to no room to turn the bottle to get the fluid into the differential...

On contrary I'd say to have the trans fluid flushed and filter changed instead...

ok thanks for the info, but i think i would shoot for the diff. fluid change before the tranny due to the face that my true dual exhaust is welded on and would need to be cut off to drop the pan. I am good for awhile on both so its no big deal. thanks for the help!

yeah...RIGHT!!! let me guess...someone watched Horsepower TV

probably could see some of those gains just form changing old oils and fluids out to ANY brand of fresh clean fluids. it wasn't the RP that made the difference...and i'm sure it wasn't 15hp.

mobile 1 is a top shelf oil...i wouldn't even think for a millisecond about it not being a good choice for a road trip.
and realize...extended driving is the best kind of driving. the engine is warmed up, the oil is circulating all the parts are lubed...that means it's the lease wear on the engine.
any oil ...assuming it's fresh....would perform fine in that situation.

in all honesty....the RP was a waste of money over the Mobile 1...which is already expensive!!!

He's probably right, I personally never tried RP because I never saw the point in paying $40 + for an oil change when I can do it for nearly half the price and still run quality oil...

yeah i know mobil one is a great oil but i fugured i would try the RP out for myslef. i want to say that i can hear a slight difference and a little smoother operation, but it might just be because i want to. I guess i just payed for piece of mind and not having to worry about my engine being hurt if i run into a traffic jam or something else that wouldn't necessarily be good on a motor. i'll probably go back to the Mobil1 after this. it was only a dollar more than the mobil1 at the parts store where i bought it so that didnt bother me much.
thanks for the replies everyone, i love this site!

Dude, they dyno tested it before and after...what more proof do you want?

yeah...but did they test any other oils??

for all we know the oil in the car had 10K miles on it...

how do you know that some $1.99/qt gas station brand oil wouldn't have showed 15hp??

do you beleive everything you see on TV?? cause the Tornado commercial "proved" gains...

you DO realize that the show is dictated by their sponsors...of course they're gonna show gains.

For the hell of it though, it would be nice if we could have a LS1 Dyno'd showing before and after results, first run using Mobil 1 and the second run using Royal Purple performed by a dynoshop who sponsors neither brands that way CZ28.com could have cold hard evidence as to whether or not Royal Purple actually produces gains...

lol....lets get right on that!!!

there are alot of things i'd like to see compared like that...

it's been suggested before many times....particularly when talking about some snake oil mods like the Turbonator or Tornado thing...

if it were done...i'd want more than one pull done...maybe an average of 5...

Dude, did you watch the show?? Obviously not,b/c they did dyno the car BEFORE ANY ROYAL PURPLE OILS WERE PUT IN. Its been a long time, but I think the car actually did have Mobil 1 in it before the switch.

Oh yea,the tornado commercial DID NOT HAVE A DYNO GRAPH showing it made power, atleast I never saw a commercial with dyno results posted.

How do I know a $2 quart of cheap gas station oil wouldnt give power? B/c someone wouldve already found out about it,and it wouldve already been a big deal.

Im not saying AT ALL that by putting Royal Purple in your car, your gonna get a SOTP feel...BUT,I do believe it wouldve given the car noticable HP on the dyno.

For the record,I have it in my car and I did notice the engine noise a little quieter but I dont know if it made it any faster b/c I was doing alot of carb tuning while running it.
