replacing hatch struts?

They've been out for a while now and I think this weekend would be a nice time to replace them. Is this a job that's a total pain in the *** like a few people have told me, or is it pretty easy to do?

Those torx bolts can be a bear to break loose, that is about the only PITA part of the process.

I agree that the Torx bolts are the worst part. But also getting around the trim that covers the bolts can be a pain, unless you remove it all. All in all it took me about 15-20 minutes max.

Of course it's a pain in the ***... it's an F-Body! Ditto on the bolts being torqued on their tight. Looks like they also may have used some kind of Loc-Tite (at least on mine). They are T-50 Torx bolts so you'll need to get that bit if you don't have one. I also recommend a 1/2" drive breaker bar to get the things loose... then just use a ratchet. And, of course, be sure to support the hatch before getting started. I used a 2x4 when I did mine a couple of weeks ago.

On the plus side, once you get the new struts in, even the Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc. struts last a few years. I got the right size socket
at Auto Zone and over 2 years later they still hold up that heavy a$$ hatch no problem.
