removing windshield wipers

i thought this was going to be an easy task. but started to look at them, how in the **** do i get them off?
the black paint has worn off in some areas, so the chrome behind is showing through. showing its age.
just want to take them off to paint them again.
thanks in advance

There's a plastic cover at the base that pulls up, exposing a nut.

yes i have that nut off. i am pulling pretty damn hard on the wiper arm at the base, it isnt budging one bit.
i even went as far as thinking that the arm was threaded on that bolt. but the bolt is turning with the arm of the wiper.
not sure, is it just on there real good?

Been there,

GM makes a Wiper Arm Puller (Part # J-39637), you can either use that or try "gently" but firmly working the arm from it's post (wasn't brave enough for the that method)

Its a tapered, splined shaft so can be quite tight..

well got it off. had a nice size flathead screwdriver, pryed it under there and pulled on the other side. came off, kinda popped then slid up.

now i am letting the paint dry. just figured i would ask how hard it is to get them back on? just some pointers before i get started later.
thanks again guys

On is a lot easier than off.. just make sure they are indexed properly, then tighten the nut.. that pulls it onto the splines..

Atleast you didn't do what I did and crack the windsheild when you were prying the wipers. I didn't think I was on it, but apparently I was!
