Removing the front dash pieces/console

I have a rattling sound coming from under my dash somewhere behind the left side of the front console under the dash....behind the fuse box. I must find it!
I have taken off a bunch of dash/console pieces but now I am at the major piece that is behind the gauge cluster...this piece extends almost the whole length of the front console and seems to be attached to the radio and everything else. I am concerned about the air bags going off. Would I be able to take this large piece off? It seems to go under the passenger seat air bag dash part.

Anyone remove the whole front console/dash area? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Removing the front dash pieces/console

Airbags should not be a problem if you disconnect the yellow connectors at the bottom of the steering column and behind the glovebox. Disconnect the battery first.
The "major piece" IS the dash, everything attaches to that big piece. The passenger side airbag is bolted to this main dash portion and its a 2 man job to remove it because the airbag weighs about 20 pounds and you will bust up the main dash piece if you try to remove it by yourself......trust me. This is not an easy job and you must be comfortable in the knowledge that you can put it back together and get everything hooked back up right. I recently had the entire dash out to remove the HVAC system from the car and its a fairly large undertaking.
PM me if you have any questions.
