However, having owned both an '02 SS and an '04 Vette coupe, I can tell you that the engines are *EXACTLY* the same with the exception of the throttle body, which is electrically operated, versus the cable operated TB on the Camaro. The engine was rated at 350 horsepower and 360 torque at the flywheel. Here's some info that you may find interesting. My SS was a manual 6 speed, with nothing more than a KN intake and a Flowmaster muffler. My Vette coupe is an automatic 4speed. Stock, the Vette was no match for the Camaro 6spd. The LS1 6spds were bad a55. |

I've heard that the cam is actually a little milder in the '01 and '02 cars, but I don't know the specs. As for "dyno'd much higher", I think 5hp was about all of the difference. The cool thing is that the LS6 intake manifold will support a lot more airflow to keep up with the mods you do later. |

yeah the 01-02 cam is milder

AFAIK, the F-bodies and 'Vettes shared the same camshafts in their LS1 engines, however if you look at the 'Vettes, they seemed to switch back and forth a couple of years:think:. The F-bodies on the other hand used the higher lift cam w/LS1 intake, THEN made the switch to lower lift cam w/LS6 intake, and they stayed that way.
FWIW, my '02 dyno'd 289 RWHP / 307 RWTQ, through an automatic with 4.10 gears, on a hot, humid day ;). Track #'s are in my sig. I think that's pretty typical for a "lightly modded" LS1 (lid & catback as the only power adders --- actually, the Flowmaster cat-back is a power ROBBER according to some people ;)). In general, I refer to the LS1 as 350 HP, because even doing the math on 289 RWHP, that works out to be a 17.5% loss on 350 flywheel HP. M6's have less drivetrain loss, and therefore they typically dyno ~300 or more RWHP :cool:. |

Those are probably typical timeslips, but I have seen a bone stock to the filter 2002 SS run consistant 12.9'sand heard of a few others. And yes the '01/02 cams were 'smaller' but the different LSA provided more overlap to take advantage of the of the better airflow provided by the intake. Every car is different; it may have only been 5hp that some see, but from what I have seen of the '02 cars thay seem to run stronger than other LS-1's at the track. I have heard (but not seen personally) of them dynoing as high as 310 RWHP.
