Real HP in the LS1 Camaros?

I'm sorry if this has been beaten to death, but I've not seen it. I know this isn't 5th gen related (except that the 5th gen will apparently have the real hp).

What was the real horsepower difference between the Corvette and Camaro in '98 to '02. From what I've seen, it was likely about 5-10, and the base SS really didn't improve that. So that would make my '98 a 335-340hp car and the '02 a 340-345hp car.

I need to know what to say when people ask me how much horsepower the car has :D Saying "310" for my black '02 seems inaccurate. Plus there's my case of curiousity (glad I'm not a cat!) :D

All LS1's output around 350-360HP, and around 370-380TQ.

There are people on here who know every single detail of every model ever made, so they will chime in with the exact numbers.

However, having owned both an '02 SS and an '04 Vette coupe, I can tell you that the engines are *EXACTLY* the same with the exception of the throttle body, which is electrically operated, versus the cable operated TB on the Camaro. The engine was rated at 350 horsepower and 360 torque at the flywheel.

Here's some info that you may find interesting. My SS was a manual 6 speed, with nothing more than a KN intake and a Flowmaster muffler. My Vette coupe is an automatic 4speed. Stock, the Vette was no match for the Camaro 6spd. The LS1 6spds were bad a55.

i say....stick with the 310 hp factory rating...and whoop their monkey ass when they think they'll own you.

 much more fun

the '01-'02 Fbody LS1's had LS6 intake manifolds, but a less aggressive cam than the previous 3 years of Fbody cars, or the Vette. My '01 Formula 6spd put down 330 lb/ft and 307 hp stock, so that puts it right at what they were actually quoting for Corvette numbers. I never got around to it, but people who put a hotter cam only in the later LS1 Fbodies get a substantial increase, even w/ no headwork.

I also had a 2000 C5, but it was A4, and it's hard to compare it to the '01. It had the performance axle, but being an automatic, it just didn't FEEL as quick as the Formula, even though it may have been. I never dyno'd it, but I can't imagine it would have put down any more than the Formula did to the wheels.

To answer your question, for all intents and purposes the engines had the same output, but GM fudged the numbers on paper to keep the pecking order in place, even though an Fbody would typically put down MORE power to the wheels than a similarly transmissioned Corvette.

The fun part of that would be to find a buddy who's talking smack about his new 310hp Mustang GT, and go out and hand it to him, then have him figure out if your car REALLY has only 310 hp. ;)

LOL so what do you tell the ls1 owners that put down 280 rwhp stock and 300 rwhp with decent mods? Ive also noticed that most peoples vision of stock on this board is not exactly stock (i.e. different air filter, different lid, or just anything outside of touching the internals)

Seems that the LS1 has a lot of variances in its last two years in the Fbody..my friend went thru two motors due to piston slap in his 2001 Z and then lemoned the car at 85k miles when the 3rd motor started to go.

The same thing you tell the LS1 owners who put down 310 rwhp stock and the LT1 owners who put down 262 rwhp...the dyno isn't the end all of performance. :)

I'd say congrats, they run w/ the low end of C5's I've seen w/ 290hp at the wheels.

So even with the milder cam, the '01 and '02 F-bodies had the same output as the Corvette? That's interesting.

Did the '98 to '00 F-bodies also have a milder cam than the Covette?

I can keep up with a modded 2001 SS with my mods below. :D I have video to prove it.

Re: Real HP in the LS1 Camaros?

At the M10 drag race event last October, I laid the smack down by 0.5 seconds on a stock C5 M6 (13.3 vs. his 13.8). I have a timeslip to prove it.

My uncle has a 2004 C5 M6 with a Corsa catback. We were playing on some backroads once -- I was right behind him at a stop sign. He got on it, and I followed. We ran up to 110 mph before he let off, and didn't gain any ground; I maintained 2-3 carlengths behind him the whole time. He's at least as good a driver as I am.

I don't know about you, but that's all I need to know about that. :D

From what I understand the 2001 & 2002 LS1 F-bodies had a different intake/cam combo which dyno'd much higher than the previous LS-1's.
