Random Car Fire

Ok this happened a while ago, but Im curious as to HOW it happened. My car caught fire by the gas tank one day, anyone know how the hell it happened...
Heres the order of events

I filled up night before
Next day went cruising, i did dog it a bit but nothing fancy, just a couple of quick bust down the main street

went around a block and went over one speedbump, looked in review mirror and noticed a little bit of smoke, thought it was exhaust cause it was cold out

then looked at armrest after second speed bump and saw smoke and looked back and whole rear cabin was filled in smoke

pulled over and noticed fire by gas door

opened gas door and gas cap and area was on fire, MOSTLY gas cap

ran and got water and put out, and had FD check it out

Changed gas cap and drove car days later and it was like nothing happed

If gas cap was bad and allowing fumes to escape it would just take a spark of lit cigarette to start a fire. If it was real full and was leaking down maybe you scrapped on the speed bump making a spark. Just guessing.

I would recommend if it happens again not to open the gas door or gas cap if the areas on fire.

That is wild... and scary. What did the FD say about the whole thing?
