radiator hose
radiator hose
I had a leak in the hose that goes from the water pump to the heater core. its rubber then goes down the front of the engine, curves up and attaches to a metal pipe (on the passenger side) with some sort of compression fitting and then the pipe goes to the heater core. I had to get my car back up and running to get to work, so I took it to pepboys, and had my friend take me to work. They said they replaced the hose, but I am looking at the hose and its got that compression type fitting and the hose looks like its the same. Can that compression fitting be undone, so they can replace the hose?? Is there some sort of patch that can be put on a pin hole hose leak to stop it? I am going to ask them to show me what they did, but just need your opinions right now.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: radiator hose
No it can't be separated. They are talking about the entire assembly, including the metal hose. And it's not cheap. In an empergency you can cut the fitting off the metal hose and clamp a rubber hose over it, until you can get the assembly replaced. One other option would be to eliminate the metal all together and reroute rubber hoses from the pump to the heater core.
Re: radiator hose
so something is not right, they said they replaced the rubber part only. But when I look at the compression fitting on the metal part, it has not been touched. Pepboys is pulling a fast one on me then.
Re: radiator hose
While you can change all those heater hoses, and still use the same aluminum pipes, the crimped/swaged on fittings get cut off in the process, and I know of no way to duplicate them.. [you would use regular hose clamps.. ]
It appears that they didn't replace the hose ...
Are you sure that's where it was leaking? Maybe a bleeder screw was loose, etc?
Added thought here one of the hoses from the water pump to the metal pipes has a 'flow control valve' in it and maybe you didn't see that.. and they just changed that smaller piece?
The valve also has swaged fittings on each end.. water pump has regular clamps on that end..
maybe they replaced the water pump to flow control valve section?
