Radiator drainplug leak!!!

I recently replaced my leaking water pump. I noticed that coolant was coming out of my drain plug on the radiator. I went and got a new one and it's still leaking out of that little drain hole. Do I have to use teflon tape or a sealant on it to stop it from leaking? Or am i screwed and have to get a new radiator? Any info is appreciated..thanks!!!

Plug is as tight as it will go. I don't really want to go buy another radiator. I already spent 200 bucks on the waterpump and t-stat. Is there any way to seal up that little drain hole? I know that if I need to drain it again i'll just remove the bottom rad. hose.

I had that problem. I just screwed a short bolt in it. No big deal. ( 1/4 inch I think) Don't tighten very tight.

I used teflon tape on over half the threads and cranked it down. Doesn't seem to be any coolant coming out so far.

Re: Radiator drainplug leak!!!

I'm having a problem with a leaking radiator drain plug as well. It's a brand new aluminum radiator (unknown brand as the mechanic didn't tell me) installed May 2010 and the drain plug leaked a few drops after install. I had the plug replaced by the dealership so I wouldn't have to have coolant all over my garage, but it's started leaking again.

If I unscrew it a little bit, will it leak fluid all over as I add teflon tape? And is teflon tape going to stand up to the temperature of hot coolant over time? I realize a shower head handles hot water, but I don't know how hot coolant actually gets.

No worries with the teflon tape.
