QUICK QUESTION! What type of steering fluid?

I am replacing my rack and pinion assembly along with ends and i want to flush the old fluid and fill it up with new one, just i don't know what type and i couldn't find it anywhere.

I have a '96 v8, 16" rims, SS model.

I don't live in the US so i'll need some kind of universal type of steering fluid to find it here.

Also, how much is needed for a complete refill?

Thanks!

Automatic Trans Fluid has detergents in it that wear out seals faster...... I would suggest just power steering fluid only....... JMO

i never had any problems, hell, ATF has fixed seaping P/S hoses on more then one of my vehicles

and I would say 2 quarts/liters would be enough, if the system is completely empty

what types of P/S fluid are available to you over there?

I used Valvoline Synthetic... I had a problem w/ boiling my PS fluid when canyon carving.. I flushed the entire system and replaced it w/ that. It should take about a qt to do the entire system. I bled the rack down too..

They do? The GM owner's manual (4th gens) says to use ps fluid.

I guess I would try ATF if I had absolutely no other choice.

I've looked up on the internet and at some gas stations what was available, i found that pretty much anyone who makes car oils makes special PS fluids. Apparently PS fluids don't have types, they're universal for any car any system...

I've found 2+2 PS fluid 1/2 quart, about 6-7$.

I'm sure if i look more i'll find other types too. I am thinking of going for some PS fluid imo.

Hondas' and Toyotas' do have their own recommended type... But just about everyone else is universal, unless its an exotic.....
