Question on LT Headers
Question on LT Headers
I'm hoping this is the right forum, I didn't see an exhaust specific subforum to work with...
For the guys going with them, and keeping emissions, what are you doing to accomplish this?
I'm going to install my Pace Setter LT's soon, but I'm curious what you are using for a cat, where to position it, and so forth - I'm going to have an exhaust shop do everything from the headers back to my loudmouth exhaust, but I'd like to walk in with a full deck of cards...
This will be my first attempt at this, so any tips/suggestions would be great - any extra parts I need to order, things to expect, things to do before/after...
Thanks for any help!

Re: Question on LT Headers
i would seriously consider dual cats. running a single cat has 2 drawbacks that i can think of.
1- the cat will be quite aways back, possibly too far to heat up to proper temperature and work effectivly.
2- you will be choking the engine to some degree, running a nice low restriction header system, but choked down by a single cat.

I have a question reguarding doing dual cats then - the stock Y pipe seems fairly squat in terms of height, where exactly would you position the cats in a dual cat system? Arguably I could leave that to the exhaust shop, but I'd much rather have control over every part of what is happening to my car. I'm assuming right off the exhaust port of the LT's, but I'm curious if anyone has had issues with clearance in that case?
I'm assuming I'd be shelling out more $$ for dual cats, but if that's what needs to be done to get proper performance for the system, then that's what I'll do. Don't exactly want to go this far and just stop - do you have any recommendations for cats in that case?
Also - if I went with a larger single one, is there one out there that would do the job properly?

Re: Question on LT Headers
beyond what i said in the first post, i'm a bit at a dissadvantage. i've never personally installed cats on a LT setup.
however, i think you will have clearance problems if you try to put the cat on the collector of the driverside header, i think there is a "hump" in the unibody that is in the way. however there is probably sufficient room just behind that. and i don't think there is as much problem on the passenger side. it will really boil down to where the collectors are situated after the install. like you said...probably up to the shop. i'm sure somebody has pics of their dual cat setup...
as far as brands of cats, i think you can pick up new cats on ebay for something like $40....or at least alot cheaper than some others i've seen. worth a look.
as for performance advantage of the dual cats, you'd probably gain maybe 3-5 hp over a single cat...may not seem like much, but considering LTs are honestly only worth 15-20hp in the real world...that extra 5hp is a big plus
