question about the window motor mod..
question about the window motor mod..
hey guys..
i was reading up on some posts here before i swapped out my window motor last week.. decided against doing the mod because of the ease of swapping the motor out..
ok, the mod was where you solder the copper strip to disable the window motor shutoff when it faces a decent amount of resistance. when i plugged in my new motor and checked to see if it worked before installing it fully, i noticed something.. when i pushed the button to lower the drivers side window, and automatic kicked in, it kept going until i pushed the switch to make it go back up... i read somewhere that 3 rotations of the motor is all that is needed to lower/raise the window, and it made way more rotations than that.
it did not fully occur to me when i was doing the motor swap, but i thought about it last night... 2 things:
1. is the automatic rolldown feature meant to be stopped by that copper strip, i.e. when the window is all the way down, is there just enough resistance to trigger the "load safety switch"?
2. if the mod is done, will it put undue stress on the motor when you use the auto rolldown feature and just let it go? i mean, will the motor still be trying to roll the window down after it is as low as it goes?
i am not sure about setup for the auto rolldown feature, but if someone could clarify, i would appreciate it..

Re: question about the window motor mod..
1). No. The express down feature is stopped by the express down module itself... not the motor. Here is a picture of the driver side express down module...

Here are some details about it...

2). No, because the express down module senses the higher current draw and will automatically secure the operation of the window.
In fact, I've been thinking about posting about a solution to the "safety" of performing this mod on the window motors themselves. Basically, when you remove this thermal overload in the motor, that window motor can cause damage to your hand, arm, or even NECK if for some reason you should have your head stuck out the window at the same time somebody is rolling it up.
The solution to this safety issue is to have express up/down windows for both sides. I've got some ideas... just need some time to test them

That was my idea as well. I just wasn't sure which brand/model to go with. I'm pretty sure I have the 530T in my garage in a box of alarm stuff. I was going to try that with modified window motors to make sure it worked before I posted the results
