Question Quarter-Panel Damage. Help.

I would say something but I'll let this do the talking:

Its a 93'. The problem im facing is that the car before this happened was in showroom condition inside and out with 37k miles on it...so its too hard to say screw it an part it out. But if I have to spend 5k+ getting is fixed then I don't know...

What do you guys think this mess is going to cost?

Ouch
Sorry to see your car in that state, hope you are o.k.If it was me I would definitely go ahead and restore it to it's former glory and then maybe even go a step further and treat the car to a new set of rims or something, turn this negative situation into a positive.Your car will love you for it
As for the cost of repair I have no idea, try posting in the "appearance" section for an accurate quote.
Hope you get your car back to it's original mint condition soon, all the best,Mark.

I would not pay a body shop to fix that, too expensive as you know. I have thought about this my self for my 32k mile SS. I would try and find a donor car that has not been hit, and swap chassis. It would take time and still cost quite a bit of money but compared to a repair for that much damage that will never be right...It may be worth the hassle. You could recoupe some of the money for the donor by parting it out. Then just have the cost of paint to deal with.

That image kinda makes me sick....poor car

I appreciate the sentiment guys, makes me sick to hear that. I mean I know its really really bad and a body shop would have to work a miracle to get it back to its former glory.

That was a picture of my car two days before =(

I dunno what to do at this point--Yeah a donor car seems to be my best bet, but the car is so clean on the inside and out it seems like such a waste. (yeah I know, like it matters now)

too bad its not the front panel, they're a lot easier to fix. U can find a new door, and for the rear, u could probably find a donor car to cut that chunk out of and then resin it in or something, idk?

I couldnt find this anywhere else, so does anybody know of a good way to repair a crack in the inside of a door. I dont know if fiberglass will work because I dont know exactly what kind of plastic the door is made of.

Any suggestions are helpful

The door skin itself is made out of fiberglass. The shell is metal. I would just replace the whole thing. I got a new door from a local yard last week for 40 dollars with the glass and mirror.(I got a great deal I know) as for the quarter panel, depending on the body shop they will prob replace the whole entire quarter panel. costs will very depending on the quality of work. couple thousand dollars worth of work atleast

I'd say you're looking at ~3500. There is a lot of structural damage under there, just look at how the door jamb is laid back over the quarter panel. You're going to need more parts then a quarter and door, plus frame time.

Food for thought, I doubt you are going to find a donor car in the condition that you car was. It's hard to find these cars without some dings and dents in the quarters.

that's gonna be ~3k to fix. You need a full quarter panel, outer wheelhouse, door, rocker panel, not to mention the labor to install. It's got to be 20-30hrs of labor at 55 or 60 an hour that body shops charge

There is no metal in the door. It is entirely fiberglass, shell, skin and all. It does have a metal side impact bar in it, but that is just a metal bar bolted in across the centerline of the door.

That being said, I agree you should just get a new door. They are cheap and not too hard to find. I'm really sorry to say it, but all that car is good for now is parts. I see $3500 damage there and the car isnt worth much more than 5 grand (KBB puts it at $4500). I'd recommend buying it back from the insurance company and parting it out. You could buy a different Z and use the parts from the wreck to do some restoration on the new car.

Yeah, I was wondering that, too. Never seen an LT1 car in that grey. Very classy. Considering the mileage/condition of your car, I would fix it-but I tend to be sentimental about my cars. Especially for 3k(if that is possible).

Depends on how much you like that particular car, I guess. I wish my car were that clean.

Your not going to get away with replacing the door and skinning it and expect it to look halfway decent, maybe if it was a pure drag racing car. There is a lot of metal that has to be repaired and replaced to make that side pretty again. Only a good body shop will be able to make it right.

Dare I ask how that happend?
