Unhappy Problem with Car Shutting Down

I am having the following problem.
I disconnected the battery and left it off for several days. Reconnected it and when I opened the door the lights came on, the blinking light on top of the dash blinked normally. I placed the key in the ignition and everything looked normal. When I turned the key to on, lights came on and when I turned to start the entire system shut down and stays down. When I open a door after this happens the light on top of the dash will blink very quickly with a fairly lound clicking noise. So far, unless I disconnect the battery for a long time the car stays in this state.
Any Clues/directions.
Thanks,
Tony

I dunno, but did you disconnect the negative terminal first, then, the positive terminal, then, when you re-connected it,did you put the positive on first, then the negative on last,in that order?Hope this helps.(nobody came in here all day,so I figured what the hay).

Sounds like a dead battery or poor battery cable connection.
