You have to drill out the rivits, shoebox has an excellent tutorial on how to do it, now if I could only remember his websites name.

EDIT:http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html
and 93v8 beat me.

Don't drill out the regulator rivets.

I suggest buying the motors from autozone. They're free life time replacements and are just as good as the stock motors.

Why do a job more then once? If the original lasted 10 years it's likely the new GM part will last about as long. I followed the shoebox site when i replaced my motor last year and was surprised how easy it turned out to be. I've done them before on other GM vehicles and actually removing the regulator can at times be a huge pain in the ***.

Yeah what i'm saying is a lot of people have the stockers fail under 5 years. I think I'm on four years with my autozone motors. So if they go out I go get a new one where as if I was buying new GM my wallet would be taking a big hit. I don't think most people get 10 yrs out of stockers. I bought my 95 in 01 with 80k miles on it and the drivers side was shot. The pass. side failed about 6 months later.

My replacement GM motor (the one used in the replacement how to) has been in since 1999. Still working. The factory original motor in the passenger door is still working, too. 104k miles on my car.

My passenger side motor went out last year. 11 Years ~90k. Appeared to be original. Looks like there is a wide range of life expectancy with these motors.

I had the center spring device come off but the window still works fine. Just be careful with the regulator that you don't move it anymore than you have to.

I bought replacements from Advanced Auto Parts. Appear to be built well and no current limiters.

I pulled my window motor, cleaned and replaced the hardening lubricant in the gear area. I then soldered solid the bi-metal connector strip and my window operates perfectly - better than new IMHO.

Look for a user called wrd1972 and follow his post about fixing the original motor. I did what he said and have a relatively fast window with no issues. He saved me $60 per side = respect for life.

I need to fix my windows, too. Anyone know how much it'd cost for parts+labor to get the motors replaced?
