Power Window Motor hack/fix

This may not be the case for all of you, but I know of a lot of 4th gens that have newer "good" window motors that will stop rolling up midstream on hot days, and you have to wait for the window motor to cool before it will go up all the way.
This problem is due to a built in thermostatic strip that is there to protect the motor from burning up if you hold down the roll up and down button, after the regulator is already maxed out. So if you do this mod, make sure you don't do that moronic thing where you have the button crammed down and can't figure out why the window wont go down then you realize you are pushing thing the passenger side switch. Also.. I"m not sure if the thermostatic strip has anything to do with the auto down feature.. it might be a kind of "load sensor" that tells the motor to shut off.. but I don't think this is the case, because my auto down works fine..
So this is what you do. you remove the window motor, obviously, then you need to bend the tabs back that hold the electric motor part in place. I'm talking about the black plastic part on the end of the motor. once you bend the locking tabs out of the way you can pull the plastic part out with pliers.

Be careful when you do this because the two brushes and two springs will fall out, and you need those.

In the picture above, notice the metal strip that runs along the right side. The end that has solder on it is the end that lifts when it gets hot and breaks the connection. Ignore the black wire that I have soldered on the left side, when I did this it kept the motor from working. What I would recommend is soldering the strip down, and then for extra insurance solder a wire across the right side.

Re-assembling the motor can be tricky, because you have to slide the plastic part back into the housing without the brushes and springs falling out. It's hard to explain the trick to this, I should have taken a picture. Basically hold the brushes in with your fingers and get the plastic started into housing, then use a small screw driver to push the brushes up into their slots and side the plastic part the rest of the way in.

I know this post is hard to understand and not written very well.. but I'm not willing to take my car back apart just to take pictures :-) if you have any questions just let me know and as the questions are answered it might become more clear.

wow

I should have done this a long time ago, the motor and much more responsive, and rolls up and down at twice the speed as before. It has yet to lock up. No more strategic roll downs before approaching drive thrus :-)
