Power window motor

I think my power window motor is going out on my driver side. It goes really slow and only a little at a time. It'll go up about 3in or so the stop and them I have to wait about 20min. and then it'll go up another 3in. Common. prob? suggestions, are the door panels easy to take off?

Those are the common symptoms for a failing window motor. You can get one from Autozone for fifty bucks and it has a lifetime warranty. Even though it was just the drivers side that was bad on my car, I replaced them both anyways so they would be consistent with each other in movement. As for the actual replacement, check out Shoebox's website, he has a tutorial on there with detailed pictures and instructions.

Also sometimes the motors themselves are ok, it is just the thermal protection that kicks it off. Someone posted a tutorial on how to bypass the thermal protection, a quick search will probably find it for ya.

Yeah I would go ahead and replace the motors. Mine did the exact same thing and not too long after died completely, while down. Like mentioned before they can be bought for about $50ish and are pretty easy to replace.

The door panel comes off pretty easily, can't remember how many screws but not many. The hardests part is the motor itself because it is riveted in so I had to drill them out. Then you need a rivet tool to put the new ones in. Hope that helps/sounds easy.

Why do you even consider buying anything from a dealership. the mark up is a rip off. My saying is "If it's not under warrenty stay away from the dealer."

Don't replace the motor!

I fixed mine (which was doing the same thing yours was doing) using these instructions (thanks shbox!). It took an hour and didn't cost me a dime!

I'm not going to knock people for bypassing the thermal cutout. It's a temporary fix that works. But your motors are going bad, that's why they are drawing more amps and tripping the thermal overload. After doing this mod, the next thing to go will be the switches.

I highly recomend replacement motors sold by Advanced Auto Parts. They are fast, reliable, and have a liftime gaurentee.

Exactly, the door is already apart anyway, might as well just do it right and replace it.

cheapest window motors out there. $30 cheaper than autozone's price. I just ordered 3 new motors from them this afternoon (two for my Formula, and another for my Camaro).
