popping/exhaust

so i changed my MAF and put in 02 sims to get my SES light to go off so i will be able to go for inspection soon, and reset the computer by unpluging the battery for a while

now when the cars cold at idle it will make this hollow popping sound in the exhaust, kinda sounds like a missfire

i did notice the sound will stop when the AIR pump goes off

the sound also goes away at idle as soon as the car warms up and goes into closed loop(closed loop right?? )

i havent gotten an SES light yet b/c i have to put some miles on the car , but when i did drive it i had no problems (other than getting a ticket lol)

my question is , is the computer still re-learning itself causing this to happen , could it be another problem

it did do this b4 hand but it was barely noticeable but is now worse and again went away when warmed up

Re: popping/exhaust

takes about an hour for the computer to relearn everything I've found. Have you put at least that long into driving it?

Re: popping/exhaust

Running rich maybe and getting some small slight backfiring when the air pump is pumping oxygen into the exhaust maybe? No real idea just would make me wonder...

Re: popping/exhaust

The problem will only be during open loop when the pump is running since you no longer have cats. Either live with it or remove the air pump. Don't know how this would effect your inspections.

You could replace the pump with a relay to aleviate the SES light problem.

You could also be a little devious if you need the air pump for inspection. Simply leave it on the engine but unhook the harness going to it. Connect a relay to the harness and the pump will not come on, the PCM will be happy cause it thinks the pump is still there and smog police are happy too.
