Please Forgive Me... But What's the Best Location to Strap onto a 4th Gen and Tow???
Well, I've been trying desperately for a couple of weeks to get my '95 Z28 to move under its own power just long enough to get it from the front yard to the lower level of the driveway so that I can replace the Opti, Plugs, Wires, and Water Pump. It only runs for about 5 seconds per day, then won't even fire.
So I'm left with no other option but to strap onto it with my K5 Blazer (Lifted 4" with 33" tires) and pull it around to the drive... Unfortunately, the car has about 3" of ground clearance and a very low hanging air dam, while the truck's receiver drop hitch is still about 1.5' off the ground.
So anybody got any bright ideas on how to put a strap on my Camaro without trashing both front fenders and the air dam???
Generally for a light pull like this I would strap around the front sway bar and just go easy and watch the strap close to make sure it doesn't make its way around to a fender. With the Camaro, I see no real safe escape route for a strap...
Unfortunately, the car is positioned so that my only option is to hook onto the front of it. I could easily strap around the rear axle or sway bar and go gently and slowly, but I can't get it turned around by strapping it from the back. Unless of course I simply drag the rear around 180 degrees...

If you remove the air dam under the car you MIGHT have enough clearance.. not sure since the truck is lifted. I pulled mine the same way, but i used my lawn mower tractor which has the hitch about 10 inches off the ground though... What about getting a bunch of your friends over and pushing it? It sounds like your not going too far.

I just moved here and don't know anybody outside of work. Had I been thinking Iwould have asked a couple of the guys to stop by tomorrow and help push it. Probably don't have to go more than 50 feet, and then it's downhill the rest of the way. The guys at work are great about helping me out and geting settled and stuff...
I did think of something else though. My K5 uses a drop receiver hitch of about 6". My van uses a raised receiver hitch of about 2" because the hitch hangs so low to the ground. I'm wondering if the 6" drop receiver will fit in the van and almost touch the ground making the strap actually pull down??? I think I'll still have to remove the air dam though.
I'm still open to suggestions until morning though!!! If not for the damned safety stuff in new cars I could crank it on the starter in first gear as far as I need to go!!!

I blew a fuel pump fuse once about a half-mile away from home once. I had a friend who used his truck to pull me from the top with the hood closed, but unlatched. You could maybe use the STB as a hitch point, or the cross brace across the front of the car. It wouldn't be hard with as short a distance as you need to go.

Too late though, I got pissed today and got out the K5 and the yank strap. The Wife supervised so we didn't have another 'Fender Removal' incident like we did when I dragged my Malibu directly sideways across a concrete driveway...
I needed to turn the car around 180 degrees so that I could roll it backwards down a steep incline to the bottom of the driveway. So I found that I could hook around the axle with the strap and then wrap the strap around the back side of the rear tire so that it only made contact with the locked tire. (Parking brake on, dragging on deep grass. [Really need to mow the yard!]) I kept dragging until the strap was about to hit the rear fender, then repositioned the truck, and had to repostion the truck about 4 times, and by that time I had the car lined up almost perfect on a slight decline in the yard where I could get in and release the brake to roll it down on its own momentum. Rolled it down exactly where I wanted with no body damage and managed to stop before the valley at the end of the drive without power brakes.
It went far too well. I'm sure something will go poorly in the next few days to make up for it...
Thanks for the help though... Good to know for next time! (Hopefully I won't need it, but still good to know...)
