Odometer Problem

I have a 1996 LT1 Z28 6 speed, my odometer stopped working. Everthing else is working fine. Can Anyone tell me what's wrong? All the gears are fine. Do I have to change the motor? or is it something else?

I aslo like to know if I get a used cluster is it any easy swap ( plug and go ) or do I have to take it to the dealer to program it to the car? Thanks, I hope to get some feed back soon.

Any good speedo/auto electronics shop should be able to help you out. I am going to be swapping clusters soon and I was quoted $75 to program my current mileage into the new cluster.

Without me actually knowing what goes into doing that, $75 to copy a number from one place to another sounds absolutely ridiculous. Let me guess -- they charge $75/hour for labor and there's a one hour minimum even for five-minute jobs? If that's the case, go elsewhere.

One of the gears on my odometer moved down the shaft a bit so it wasn't meshing, caused it to stop working, fixed it with super glue.

Well since I do work in a shop and understand how labor works I know why they charge that much. I don't have the tools to do it myself, and no one else in my network of friends and shops have the software or knowledge either. If you can program a digital odometer for considerably less, I am all for it.
