odd question about shipping something

thought this might belong in here...i know i would hate to have it go to the lounge

anyways..i'm selling my rksport/wings west wing and i got the dimensions and everything and ups wants like 100$ to ship it
i'm in cincinnati oh45215 and the person buying is in branson mo 65616
trying to ship it to a business addy hoping it will be cheaper
the dimensions are 60/34.5/9 (lwh) and it's about 19-20 lbs

if anybody can help, i'd really appreciate it

Maybe because of the size?

Re: odd question about shipping something

well, part of it was that they said it was big and they automatically count it as 90 lbs. (got this info from the ups store)
somebody though just shipped 2 wheels/tires and it was like 60$
how would that make sense?
i guess you could ship them on top of each other but that is still a lot of weight and pretty big

To UPS 120" using this formula is oversized (L+L+W+W+H) so your package is 157". Is the wing 34.5" tall? that is pretty damn big for a wing. If you can get the package dimensions smaller than 120" the shipping rate will drop drastically...

Re: odd question about shipping something

it is 60" length, 34.5" wide, and 9" tall
so basicallyi t's 60x2= 120 + 34.5x2= 69 + 9
120+69+9= 198
there is no way i can make it any smaller
i already have it packaged tight to the wing as can be

Re: odd question about shipping something

I had a rear window louver for my 4th Gen that I needed to get shipped from NH to me in MN. USPS and Fed Ex wouldn't ship it (so the seller said at least), but UPS quoted $125.

This item was large, (5' by 4' by 1'), but only wieghed 15 pounds. Someone tipped me off to Greyhound. I got it in less than 2 days, and it costed me a whopping $35!

Of course it had to be dropped off at the NH depot, and picked up at the MN depot, but for a 72% price cut, a little driving wasn't a problem!

You might want to look into this!

Re: odd question about shipping something

I've used the Greyhound method before with a drivers side door I bought for my friends '94 Z28. Shipping on it was only like ~$40 from VA Beach. It was a complete door with switches, interior panel and window as well.

All you have to do is make arrangements for which depot you want it to be dropped off at and at least in my case... a guy working at the depot called to let me know my package was there.

Re: odd question about shipping something

Check FED-EX ( www.fedex.com )

They are CHEAPER then UPS ....

Do a quote and see the price difference ...

Also if you ship to a business with FED-EX it is a cheaper rate...

PS: UPS SUCKS, They are far over-rated and OVER-Priced !!!

Re: odd question about shipping something

thank you guys very much for this info
i think i (and the buyer) are going to go with greyhound since it is the best deal and it isn't a big deal for driving (atleast for me )
i'll have to remember that when i ship my exhaust and other things
o, and thanks for the tip on fedex too, i might use that to ship my alarm

You might want to keep this in mind just for oversized and/or odd sized items. I shipped an exhaust system for $21 via Fed Ex, and would have paid more using Greyhound.
