Question No a/c even after self charged

Ok, I put 3 12oz cans of freeon or whatever it is in my car today. Not even cool. The line itself didn't even get cool, let alone cold. Now what? This is a new engine in my car going from a v6-v8. Do I have to get it vacummed out or something like that first? How do I know if the compressor kicked in? I swear before when I charged it when it was a 6 I heard the compressor kick in. This time I didn't at all. Any advice is appreciated.

The system needs to be evacuated to work properly but you do need to start by making sure the compressor engages - is the front of the pulley spinning when you turn it on or just the hub where the belt rides?

You may also have to reset the PCM to get it to kick in. Any time the system has been opened, you should have it evacuated before charging. Moisture will damage the system.
