Unhappy No 1stgear

Folks:

I have a 95 Z28 in great shape with many mods. It has an auto tranny, and that's my question.

Why can't I use 1st gear? It has 1st, 2nd, drive and OD. I've never been able to put it in 1st. It just does'nt want to go to that gear. I was once told "It's a California car". That makes no sense to me.

The tranny is in great shape, but just does'nt want to go to 1st gear.

Any ideas as to why?

As in, manually shift it into 1st, not selectable in the gear shift?

If so, you just have a 2.73 car.. pop the shifter console off, pry off the white block that keeps the car out of selectable first, and call it a day...

It was done for noise regulation issues w/ 2.73's I believe..

IIRC my bro had the same thing in his old 94z and one time he really dropped the shifter into first and broke the little plastic thing that was holding it back. that's one method, or you can just remove the console and take the little plastic thing off. its really no use though since your tranny is electronic. and yes my bro had 2.73's or GU2 option code, if you haven't swapped to 3.73's you will find the SOTP meter will be very happy.

If it says '1st' gear on the selector there's no 'rubber block'...
Those WITH the block only have '2nd 3rd OD N R P' on the selector..
