your best bet, is just any 98-02 ls1, camaro... 6-speed or auto, depends what you prefer, little less drivetrain loss iwth a 6-speed.

there are slight variances on the years, but not leaps and bounds different imo. I would just look for the best condition, mileage, 6-speed, camaro, preferably an SS, but a Z28 is just as fast. I just see the SS's holding their value a little bit more just because of the SS badge. and you get the cool hood and spoiler. And depending on the years, a much better suspension.

The LS1 is probably your best bet until the 5th gen comes out.

K thanks everyone. Now is an LS1 a SS, or a Z28 or a whole different setup?

So the SS and Z28 are the same speed but the SS looks cooler?
Wat bout the LS1. Sorry for sounding like a noob but honestly i am when it comes to camaros. i about cars just not the certain models that are quicker with camaros. Thanks alot.

The "LS1" is the engine in the '98 - '02 Z28's, SS's, Formulas, Trans-Ams, and WS6's (<-- WS6 is basically the Firebird version of an "SS").

From '93 - '97, the "LT1" was the engine in all the V8 cars.

Power wise, there were a couple minor upgrades to the LS1 engine in 2001, compared to '98-'00, that make it marginally "better", so if you're looking for the most power from the factory, look at an '01/'02. And yes, "technically" the SS & WS6 got upgraded air intakes and cat-back exhausts, so their "rating" was higher from the factory as well, but it's nothing you can't just go and buy for yourself later on if you got a Z28 or TA.

So what is the Firehawk in the realm of all this? Wouldnt it be the "SS" of the Firebird?

The most powerful Camaro is probably the 1969 ZL-1,which had 430bhp and 450 lb-ft of torque.Quarter mile in 11.68 @ 120mph with headers and slicks .
In stock form it would run 13.2 @ 110mph,not bad for 1969,aim to pay around $150,000 though.
On a more serious note buy a late model Camaro with the LS1 engine and change the air intake and put a decent cat-back exhaust on .

I think the late 2002 Pontiac" Firehawk" models made 345bhp,but I could be wrong.
Camaro SS=WS6 Firebird, the "Firehawk" was the most powerful I think.

I would rather have an 89 TTA over an LS1 any day, even if the LS1 was faster.
