New to the board

Hello All:
My first time posting here. Great site!! Recently purchased an 02; Z-28 convertable with only 2500 miles - - all stock.

Need some advice. What modifications should I consider first? Currently I use this car as my everyday car.

** Exhaust
** Intake
** chip??

Thanks in advance for any input.

Exhaust if you want it to sound better than a 2.8L V6. A cat-back won't gain you much power, but it will sound better.

Intake will gain you a few HP...nothing "night and day", but a small seat-of-the-pants increase, and it's sort of a "logical first step". What you're looking for is an aftermarket air-box lid...everyone just talks about the "lid".

LS1's don't use a "chip" anymore...now it's programmers. Depending on what you do or plan to do will determine whether tuning your car will really be worth it. Is it an auto or 6-speed? With the auto, at least you can re-program shift points and shift firmness and stuff like that.

Have fun modding, and congrat's on the new ride.

Re: New to the board

Congrats on your find and welcome to the board.

Here's what you should do: Go to the section labeled "LS1 Engine Tech" and read first 5-10 pages and you'll find answers and opinions on most of the "newbie" questions.

Really.

Re: New to the board

Thanks Capn Pete.

The car is an auto. Local performance shop showed me the programmer and noted it would be a good choice for the auto Z-28. Also what is your preference (brand) towards exhaust systems? Finally, what type of HP/TQ enhancements can I expect from these mods?

Thanks again,
BM

Re: New to the board

gmmginc.net is a great exhaust
i have it on my lt1 and it sounds awesome (got mine on a gp though for 600, see if you can find one if you can afford it, i know i barely could)

and yea, get a custom tune (to replace a programmer, or new "chip")
they are good stock, but if you plan on modding more, wait for it
either way, even if it's stock, it's good for some rwhp

after all those, you can do headers, gears, roller rockers, underdrive pullies if you prefer, and then start diving internally (cam, pistons, stroker, etc.)
it's all up to your wallet

edit: welcome to the board
sounds like a nice car with some LOW miles
