need advice/ is it worth it

i found a 97 z28 with 90,000 miles. it doesnt have a title, was bought by a man not running but he got it running by replacing the optispark. then he discovered that 2 dead cylinders he said it was just a blown head. he has gotten the heads reworked and he is selling it now for $500. should i snag this and do a engine swap and then sell the extra parts?

im thinking i could easily make my money back on this.

-thanks

I'd think you could easily make your money back selling parts...

I assume you need to do something about not having a title. How do you know he is the legal owner?

The first thing I would do is bring the VIN number to the local PD and ask them to check if is stolen. Ask them to run it in all 50 states. Should come up a hit either way if it was reported stolen. If it is not stolen check your DMV to see the procedure for obtaining a ownership/ title for a car that has no title. Do none of the and you risk getting arrested for receiving stolen property, loss your 500 and have the car taken away.

given the needed space in the driveway/garage most guys would including myself, bear in mind no title means you 'own' nothing which is not much of a factor if all you're going to do is race it

If it comes up clean, I think your idea is a good one. Swap the engines out, sell parts from the untitled one, including your current engine. You should easily come out on top, plus have a fresher engine in your own car. I'd do it if I had the space.
