My z28 is falling apart from neglect

What's a guy to do? My car is a gem, 1994 z28 purple pearl metalic, (beautiful car), but I can't find the time to enjoy it. I've added all of the free mods including SS hood with K&N air filter, 315's tires with 17" zr1s wheels, shorty headers, hooker catback exhaust, adjustable panhard bar, stabilizer bar, chrome emblems and chrome antenna, MTX subwoofer box made for camaros, New timing chain, Delteq ignition system, (after I went through three (3) optis). It has an all leather interior with a pioneer headbox and 12-disc cd changer. It seems the thrill is gone. Help me make up my mind as what to do. Should I sell it or just keep dumping money into it. It only has 105,000 miles on and it runs like a striped ape. Oh yeah its a 6-speed. The headliner is beginning to sag, second gear is a little stubborn, the dash is wearing, vents are sun-dried and broken. My car sits in my back yard and just smiles at me, I drive it about once a month to keep from getting too lonely. Please help me.

Re: My z28 is falling apart from neglect

Sounds like my car... Gem except for a few problems that have come up recently. I to only drive mine a couple times a month. Recently I opened my glove box only to have the top fall back into the back seats (broken hinge POS plastic) already replaced the dash (was cracked) and after the dash fix the headliner started to sag. Other than that everything was fine. Seems like its all happening at once
The stock power was getting a little boring, so I decided to put some heads and a cam in it . I'll still have to fix the other stuff, but for right now, (when its finished, waiting on parts) the power should compensate for and make me smile again for a good while.

A sagging headliner, a cracked dash, and a stubborn trans., my car has similar problems and I'm not about to sell it. Just gives me a few some extra projects to do on it in the spring. You could go out and buy another car, but you can go down the same path with that as well. Call me biased, but I would stick with the Camaro.

Don't worry my 95 has 100,510 miles on it. Has a sagging headliner, broke coin tray cover and a powerless drivers seat. All in all I love it. Just can't wait for some more power.

You gotta realize cars get old and if you have had it past the 10 year age mark you have had it past its expected life. look around, how many cars from 1993 are still on the road? now how many are in any way near decent shape, most all have fallen by the way side unless it was some thing worth it, like a sports car but even then how many 93 Z28s are still on the road, and if so what kinda shape are they in. When you hold on to a car this long your going to get your fare share of nickel and dime problems. I know them well, but its the proce you pay to keep a car up. Be lucky atleats ours cars wont rust. Your car doesnt seem in that bad of shape, if you spent 500 in misc fix it parts you would be surprised.

hmm, where have you been? I am starting to get a pin ***** of rust on my drivers rear quarter panel above the tire... I am pissed! Anyone know where to get some fiberglass rear quarters, so then it can't rust??
Also, nickle and dime will happen, but isn't it great to pull up to a vette, and leave it at the stoplight?
God I love that. Oh, yours won't do that??? Then MOD THE DAMN THING!
The car is prolly paid off, so stick some money in the go fast department, and you will love it again. Trust me!
Mine is a race car for the street....

Our cars don,t rust eh?
Wanna see pics of my floorboards before and after the rust repair? I pulled the interior out to install a race seat and a Pro Stick shifter and some new carpet.
The rust demon was hard at work on that floor pan. I had holes after grinding all that crap out. Little holes, but holes none the less. Some grinding, some bondo, some rust eating snot, some sealer, some paint and its all better but don,t tell me these cars won,t rust.

Re: My z28 is falling apart from neglect

You have nothing to worry about. You could just take the headliner out and take it to a shop and have them redo it for cheap. Other interior parts you could find in a junkyard will go a long way toward freshening things up. Now would also be a good time to have the radiator flushed, rear axle fluid changed, and a tuneup (plugs, wires, fuel filter). It also wouldn't hurt to do a treatment or 2 of www.auto-rx.com.

As for a stubborn 2nd gear, leave that alone for awhile. If 2nd is a little stubborn at times, particularly when cold, you still have some life left in it before really needing a rebuild.

Bottom line, don't sell it because of little stuff like this. Take the time and spend the modest amount of money to do these things. Since it's been sitting alot, I bet it'll run better with a simple tuneup.

Re: My z28 is falling apart from neglect

Thanks guys, I feel a lot better now. Reading your replies made me laugh a little, because I didn't realize that I wasn't the only one in this boat. Don't you just love the camaro z28, these things kick a--. I would like to have a LS1, but I don't want to spend even more money trying to get it to look as good as my 1994 Z28. Can someone please tell me where I can get a new dash, new transmission, new headliner, ohh mann on & on & on . I've done some searching and I think that I have decided on a cam and a mail-order tune. I don't want an all-out race car, but I love to go fast. Thanks guys for helping me make up my mind and keep my ZZZZZZZ .
