Is my T/A worth selling?
Is my T/A worth selling?
I've had this 3800 pound gorilla on my back for a while, and I need it gone. It's my 1982 t/a. I started slowly and lovingly restoring the car two years ago because I couldn't deal with the fact that I had to sell it in order to move. Long story short I got in over my head and dumped loads of money into it, and it "looks" worse than ever. I replaced the doors and floorpans, and fixed every little problem I could find in the process, so needless to say my car looks more like a dalmation than the original black.
I have two choices: sell the car off as a project car; or try to convince my girlfriend's father, who owns a used car lot, to take it for free. I just need to get rid of this car soon, so I can move to find work. The specs are as follows:
Under the hood:
-Engine: 350cid, runs good and doesn't burn oil (Searches on casting no. have showed "1970-72 1/2ton pickup or hiperf 4-bolt" or "z28 hiperf 4-bolt." Original owner claimed it was a corvette engine.)
-Pete Jackson Geardrive
-Cylinder Heads: 57cc chamber; 1.98"int 1.5"exh valves. Recently rebuilt with umbrella valve seals.
-Edelbrock Torker intake with matching hydraulic camshaft. Lifters, pushrods are brand new.
-Freshly rebuilt distributor with GM 882 HEI module and Accel Supercoil. Centrifugal and vacuum advance have both been tuned. I really polished everything up to make it look great.
-Carter AFB chokeless 4barrel 600cfm carb. Freshly rebuilt with spring loaded needles. Very easilly tuned carb (I have the book).
-the Starter and Alternator are both relatively new and both have lifetime warranties.
-I have a new 5qt oil pan and z28 melling oil pump, but I don't have the equipment nor the patience to replace them. Old ones still work fine, with new one-piece Felpro gasket.
-Stock exhaust manifolds and flowmaster muffler.
-700r4 transmission. Admittedly this is the weak point of the drivetrain.
Body:
-Shell is a 1982 T/A
-Had to tear the whole body off in order to fix some bad door hinge bushings. Rust proofed the frame beneath sprayed sound absorbing coating on the inside of the fenders.
-New floorpans, also sprayed in sound absorbing coating.
-Admittedly the body had some old scars that were covered improperly by bondo, but I've fixed them properly and everything is rustproofed and primered.
-needs a new rear bumper cover (which I can get)
-The finish will be ready for a base coat of paint. The original color was black, but both doors are primered along with the area behind the rear tires and the running boards.
Interior:
-Dash and consoles are the '86up style and are black. There are some cig burns by the ashtray.
-The rest of the interior is the original grey, and is in relatively good shape.
-the Driver's seat is worn in the usual way, but I have good quality seat covers to cover the problem.
-the headliner is in sad shape, so I was planning on replacing the fabric along with the sail panels.
-carpet has some cig burns, but underneath is a couple layers of heavy-duty padding.
So what I be looking to get for my car? I just want to get rid of it fast. The sooner, the cheaper. Or should I just get rid of it?
