My new CHEAP oil changes!

Looks like after reading some old posts I'll be running Havoline conventional oil. Last week, I picked some up from the fine people at Wal-Mart, but forgot my last quart.

Well, I stopped by Advanced Auto parts and went in to pick up a quart of Havoline there. While there, I was informed that Advanced Auto's house brand in a generic bottle is actually Havoline oil. So, it's looking like my oil changes just got a lot cheaper- especially compared to the syn Mobile One I was running before.

Along these lines I though Greed4Speed's comments were relevant;

"Ever see a K-mart or Walmart refinery? The answer would be no because they get someone else to refine it and bottle it. I work in a chemical company. We make our same products to our specs, bottle them and lable them with another company's lables on a daily basis. This is exactly how generic oil is."

So, what do you guys think?

No, that is not true. In fact on the back of a Mobile One quart it says that it is 100% compatible with conventional oil.

You can switch oils as much as you want, nothing will happen. I still use synthetic for the better properties of it. Conventional oil won't hurt your car though so if you are happy with it, go for it.

I'll stick to Castrol Syntec 5w30.

Wal-mart "Super Tech" oil is Quaker State IIRC. Their filters also tested well and are made by Champion who makes K&N among others. I think even the Mobil 1 filters.

I run regular Valvoline. I found that w/synth I was 1 qt low by 3k miles, but don't use much conventional oil.

Just stick with 3k mile changes or more if you're racing and your engine will last as long as i you ran synth.
