My 97 Formula vs a 98+ Z28/Trans Am?

Would it be a close race, or would I take them? You can see the mods in my signature. I have an A4. I'm talking about a bone stock LS1 Trans Am or Z28. What about the SS and WS6 as well? Would I have a better chance with drag radials and a torque converter?

You would probably edge a 98-99 A4 LS1, but a 6 speed will still walk ya, an 01-02 6 speed will run you hard. Sticky tires and a TC would help tremendously from a dig, but from a roll you'd still be walked by a M6 and driver.

That's a pretty even race.

Will be fun for you.

Re: My 97 Formula vs a 98+ Z28/Trans Am?

after thinking about it, a buddy of mine with a 00 M6 formy dynoed 315 rwhp untuned with pacesetter LT's ORY, corsa catback and lid. So I'd say you could run a 98-00 6 speed as well, but I know of a 02 firehawk M6 running 13.1@109 dynoing 321 rwhp 333 ft lbs bone stock to the filter, so if you can outdo that, than you can possibly outrun a 01-02 "stock" LS1 M6. Other than that you should give any other LS1 a good run for their money.

That's weird...

When I was at the track there were at least 2-3 LS1 WS6 Trans Am's there and all of them were M6. The BEST they got on a stock car to the filter was a 13.6x while my best was a 13.8 flat not including my headers. I figure between .2-.4 off *maybe more* with my long tubes. I ran 13.8-13.9 all day consistantly.

My 01 SS ran a 13.7x with a bad clutch and pinging/bad timing bone stock. 01-02 cars are a bit more powerful than the 98-00 cars, so im assuming a healthy 01-02 car can run low 13's and ive seen a few instances of 12.9x, so yer close, prolly run heads up with 01-02 Z28s and TAs, but id think yer just a bit behind the SS WS6 and Hawks. Sweet car btw, my buddy just but a Vig stall in his bird and whoa! makes it a different animal.

All LS1 cars are making around the same power (+/-10), don't let the ratings fool you. You may hold your ground depending on if they have a strong/weak car and depending if you have a stong/weak car. Honestly I'd put my money on the LS1 but theres always a chance they can lose. I know a stock 02 Z28 running 12.9 on street tires.

Re: My 97 Formula vs a 98+ Z28/Trans Am?

When I had my red '00 WS6 M6, it was bone stock to the dirty filter, and I ran a few cars in it. One included was a 94 LT1 w/ flowmaster, some chip, and some kind of stall. We ran twice, first from 20mph roll, and then from a dead stop. From a 20mph roll, it was almost silly. Into 2nd it was his front and my back bumpers, into 3rd it was another 2 cars or so, and into 4th, well, he said he let out of it pretty quick, which he probably did. From a dead stop, we both spun pretty good, but he hooked before I did and my bumper was at his door going into 2nd. By the time I hit 3rd I had stopped his pull and got almost even, and into 4th I had a good car and a half to 2 cars. Mine was bone stock, and had 87k miles on it, w/ bearings whaling their ***** off in the rear. Yeah, the LS1's rock
