Question My 95 lost complete acceleration on the highway doin 60

When i got my car i knew it had some problems i was told the drivers side oil valve needed 2b replaced and i failed my state inspection because i needed an exhaust manifold head gasket or something and i been told the catalytic converter needs 2 be replaced it makes a ringing like sound. i haven't fixed anything i watch the oil level and check everything but that's it. I was goin out of town maybe 20 minutes away and i wasn't even half way there when the car completely stopped accelerating while i was in the passing lane i pushed the pedal it did nothing the speed dropped and i just pulled over into a turning lane and shut it off and it smoked for 10 minutes from the passenger side. every1 says it needs a tune up but that seems like an easy solution for such a big problem. i haven't drove it since but when i start it it sounds better than ever. im lost?

did you look under the car while it was smoking? if you have a clogged cat, it could be getting hot and burning crap under the car which would explain the smoke and the car running like ****.

i had that happen with an old VW GTI i used to have.
