My $1400 94 Z28.
My $1400 94 Z28.
M6, Hardtop, cloth interior, all power, 107,000 Intake/Exhaust with cutout. Got it from a guy in his 50's he had it for 7yrs and drove it 5K miles, The oil was only 300 miles over 3K but 6 years past due ! The A/C compressor was shot and he was asking 2500. I went and drove it and noticed it leaking coolant, So he took 1400, I think I did pretty well, runs very strong
I put a By-pass pulley on it, waterpump, thermostat, new belt, and new delphi opti spark.
It's very clean, very few light scratchs, and it has a dent in the hood about the size as a baseball. How much do you all think I can get out of it if I were to sell it ?

Not a bad deal considering you could sell the T56 for what you paid for the whole car. I picked up similar deal for my beater car, I'm getting 27mpg out of it and it's a blast to drive to work.

Re: My $1400 94 Z28.
I'd say it depends on location and how the body and interior are.....I'd check on craigslist or something and see what people in your area are asking for similar cars.......kbb is an ok source, but some values aren't realistic as they are a lot higher than nada and bluebook value.....My dad's a dealer I can probably find out suggest retail price from him if he has a book that dates back to 94...
Re: My $1400 94 Z28.
The guy cut the price $1100 bucks for a bad AC compressor and a coolant leak. What a meathead....
Depending on where you live you can do alright on the sale of the car but you might consider parting it out...you'll probably make twice what you could sell it for..

Re: My $1400 94 Z28.
I paid the same price for virtually the same car, only it was an auto, had 168k, and had been hit in the right quarter. I ended up pulling the motor and trans, replacing the quarter with one from a donor, and selling it as a roller for 1200 because I got sick of working on it. If the car is in good shape body and interior wise, you got a great deal. Even 2500 would've been a reasonable price, IMO.
Re: My $1400 94 Z28.
Sell it ASAP because LT-1's are pieces of crap looking for a place to take a dump! When I finally get my mystery problems figured out it's gone.10 years of misery.Sorry so harsh but the truth hurts
Re: My $1400 94 Z28.
LT1s are perfectly good powerplants, the Optispark notwithstanding. If you take care of them, they're plenty reliable. The 168k car mentioned above was still going strong, and I drove it from home from Philly, a 6-hour trip. Aside from an oil leak, it was solid.
Re: My $1400 94 Z28.
Little off topic, but I find the need to defend the LT1. Funny how people hailed the tpi, and vortec engines, and then LT1's and put them into everything you could think of, til the ls1 came out, and then all its variables. Its called technology guys, everything gets outdated. Aside from the ****ty optispark location/design, it was a huge step forward in fuel injected small block chevy's. Dont jump on the bandwagon and act like its a p.o.s. because theres plenty of bada$$ lt1's turbo'd and s/c'd and sprayed that will beat the dogcrap out of some high dollar vehicles. Chevy always was and always will be a poor mans high perf. vehicle, no matter what gen. it is. Compare apples to apples, dont be a loser bandwagon jumper.

Re: My $1400 94 Z28.
Mike94, sorry to hear about your troubles. Alot of the failures you mentioned are common with these cars, most notably the Opti, window motors, headlight motors, and 4L60E trans. The money I've got into transmissions alone is more than I paid for my latest Trans Am. I've had a 96 Z, a 95 Z, and now a 94 TA, plus my mother drives a 99 V6 car, so I've been plenty busy fixing the shortcomings of 4th gens over the years. Really, though, if you want a car you never have to work on, these cars are a poor choice. For the record, I've daily driven all but one of my F-cars, and have been left on the side of the road a handful of times, so I feel your pain. However, I like these things so much that I just accept it; not everyone is as easygoing.
