Misfiring in the Rain

Hey guys,

I've noticed that sometimes if it is raining really hard, my car will start to miss. I imagine it is because the engine is getting wet. Is there any way to prevent this? Would replacing the underhood insulation help? How about removing it comletely (maybe it is getting soaked with water, and then sitting over the engine dripping water on it)? Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Frank

If you have a CAI you need to shield the element to prevent the engine from sucking water.

Nope, don't have a cold air intake. I don't think that the motor is sucking up water (at least I hope it isn't ), I just think that water might be getting on electrical components and making them act funny

Check to see if all wires are securely connected to the opti, and check for any burned wires.

I had the SAME exact problem with my 94 z28. The opti spark would get wet and it would mis fire when it rained really hard

Check spark plugs boots for cracks/fitment. It's good idea to use dielectric grease while installing them exactly to avoid this particular problem.

Yup, I would begin by replacing the spark plug wires.

For those of you talking about opti's, I have a v6 As for the plug wires, they were changed in july, and I just got it back from the shop, saying that they were fine.

Re: Misfiring in the Rain

You could always wait for a dry day and spray the wires with a spray bottle and be certain if they can hold up to the conditions. Also, as mentioned, just double check your connections.
