miscellanious LT1 questions
miscellanious LT1 questions
Is a total LT1 suspension(sfc, lcr, stb, torque arm, panhard rod, sway bars, springs) change a tough task to do in your driveway. What tools are required other than basic hand tools? Is there anything thatI would need to watch out for when doing it (common problems)?
Also my starter is grinding and is about to go out... how hard are they to rebuild or is it of my best interedt to just get a new one?

Re: miscellanious LT1 questions
Nothing is too tough for your driveway! The catch? You need proper tools.
You should have a nice tool set with different sockets and wrenches. This is required for anyone doing work on his car, so if you haven't got that yet, be sure to get it. Two or three wrenches will not do it.
You will definitely need a spring compressor.
I don't think there are other specialized tools that you need, but as soon as this post will be moved to appropriate LT1 forum you will get more specific answers.

Re: miscellanious LT1 questions
You will want a s et of ramps to install most of this stuff.
STB and swaybars are a snap.
LCAs and panhard are easy too but having an impact wrench makes it easier.
Torque arm is more work but still can be done at home.
SFCs should be welded on with the car on a lift.
I would not do aftermarket springs on stock shocks, and a spring install is much easier and safer with a mounted spring compressor.

Re: miscellanious LT1 questions
I'd just like to stress the importance of having a good impact wrench for anything suspension related. I got tired of breaking bolts in half with the breaker bar (ironic name isn't it). Other required tools, a full can of PB Blaster, good floor jack and jack stands, dead blow hammer, grease gun, a case of beer and bandages. Oh, and a wire feed welder to install the SFC's; dont even bother with bolt on ones, do it right the first time.
