looking into some milled stock heads. they have been cut .030", for that i would need to pick up some 7.425" pushrods in place of the stock 7.4"

correct?

grrr...this "budget heads swap" is becoming much less budget!!!

You'll need shorter push rods. A milled head's height will be shorter than stock.

Shorter than stock since you are moving the head closer to the deck. Also will have to look at milling your intake. Is the LS1 PR length really that much longer than a LT1?

you wont have to mill the intake, they use gaskets that allow for big head height changes

shorter....DOH...that's what i meant.

since the intake doesn't seal any oil in...i can't imagine .03" change in position would cause a problem.

thanks guys.

so is the 7.375" (.025" shorter) close enough?? even though the heads are milled .030"??

i suppose that question is better suited for the ls1 forum...since you dont' have to set valve lash on ls1 rockers.

If the intake doesn't seal any oil, I guess it's just a myth that the rear of the intake leaks oil

The lifter valley is right below the intake so of course the intake seals oil. The area of concern for milled heads is that the intake ports from the heads to the intake align correctly and don't leak.

the original poster has a LS1, so.......seals no oil, there is a valley cover that seals the oil
