Mileage On 96 Camaro

Hey All, I was thinking about buying a 1996 z28 camaro, but im not sure if I should. I was wondering how long they usually last if you treat them good, mileage wise?

Just like any car if you treat it right and take care of it it will last a long time, mine has 114k miles and I race it and have no problems.

Re: Mileage On 96 Camaro

Had a LT1 with 155K and still going as strong as brand new... I mean even started up just barely turning the key.

I hear these engines were biult to last well into 300K mark without having to rebiuld provided you take care of it and don't do anything stupid to it...

I bought mine with 80k even back in 02 and it currently has 93k along with a little head/cam action. These things are good for a LONG time.

The SBC has been around forever. There has been plenty of time to work out the kinks. Be nice to it and it will be nice back, for quite some time. I know some people with 150-200k on theirs, and it runs like new.

If you take car of the car, it will take care of you. My 88' is approaching 200k miles and is still running fine, i change the oil every 2k miles and i treat it like a baby, only gunning it on the weekends every once and a while at the drag strip.

Re: Mileage On 96 Camaro

My 96 has 91K miles on it and still pulls strong. As long as you take care of it...the engine's pretty solid. I'll be replacing the lifters soon, because I'm changing to 1.6RRs.

Be warned that F-bodies do tend to creak and sag with age.

Re: Mileage On 96 Camaro

I just turned 140K on my 95 and I currently don't have any issues with it. As stated above, treat it right and it will treat you right.

Re: Mileage On 96 Camaro

I bought mine needing engine work at 143,000, but it had belonged to a kid that ran nitrous and had beat on it pretty hard. I'd have to say 143,000 isn't bad for a stock shortblock with nitrous.

Re: Mileage On 96 Camaro

Bought my 94z28 new, been my daily driver for 10.5 years and 210,000 miles with no major problems. However the engine has just begun to smoke when I hammer down on it, and the power is not what it once was. Thinking of doing a rebuild sometime soon. Take care of them and they will last.
