manifold bolt broken off in head. oh dang...
manifold bolt broken off in head. oh dang...
Anybody got any tricks?
The backmost bolt on the driver's side is broken off. Car has 120k miles... afraid this is going to be really hard...
Still got stock manifolds.

Re: manifold bolt broken off in head. oh dang...
How far down did it get broken off? Is there enough left on top to get a pair of vice grips on it?
I'd suggest hosing it with some PB Blaster and letting it soak for awhile, then use vice grips if possible (after removing the manifold, of course), or try an easy-out. Probably pretty much your only 2 choices.

I think it may have a bit left... dang I just don't wanna take the manifold off. I wonder if an easy-out would work with the small amount of pressure I could get to it.
This sucks.
This sucks.

You will have to take the manifold off no matter what.
My trick is to hit the bolts on the manifold with penetrating oil of choice (WD40) and let it sit at least overnight. If they still do not want to give, hit them with a propane torch and get them hot. Then spray them with more WD40 and let them sit again - just don't spray the WD40 and then use the torch.
Once the manifold is off, hit the broken bolt with the torch and then spray with WD40. As long as you can grab the remains of the bolt with vice grips, you should be able to back it out.
