LT1s vs third gens

LT1s vs third gens
i can't seem to find a decent LT1 in my area for the right price. I'd have to travel a whole day to get to one
obviously the LT1s should be faster but some thirdgens could have more torque?
I can find a few real cheap IROC-Zs (look awesome to me, almost/maybe better than 93-97 LT1s) and I'm sure I could get a crate/stroker engine in there and have a lot of fun for cheap, no?
Thing is, I need a camaro as a daily driver. An IROC-Z would be 15+ years old. Would things be falling apart often? Are IROCS something that should be preserved and not driven daily like I would intend?

Re: LT1s vs third gens
If you want a 3rd gen then get one. Personally I think they are better looking than most 4th gens with the right model of course. It will take a few mods to get equal speed out of them compared to the LT1. Then more mods to equal an LS1. I would look for one made in 1989 or later.
I went to the track yesterday and got a 12.73 et with a 105.85 MPH out of mine. Fully street legal with airfilter, mufflers and I estimate a race weight of around 3800 lbs. I weigh 250 pounds. My fully loaded GTA with T-Tops is the heaviest 3rd gen going. Allen

I really don't like the 4th gen look at all. I LOVE the look of the 3rd gen Camaros. My next car will be a 3rd gen black Z28 or IROC with the v8 of course.
Absolutly beautiful car.

depends on what ya like, I personally dislike the 3rd gens...you can pick up a LT1 for practically nothing nowadays...be patient theres always plenty for sale here...LT1 gets much faster w/ mods

Re: LT1s vs third gens
Nobody has mentioned yet that a 3rd gen is a lote easier to work on than the 4th gen. The engine isn't under the windshield like the 4th gen, and the engine bay in general seems bigger.
I'd avoid t-tops altogether. In those cars they cause a lot of body flex. Not to mention water gets trapped in the metal channel around the t-tops causing rust holes, which equals more leaks.
Another thing is the panel fit on a 3rd gen is a lot tighter than the 4th gen. No 3/4" gap where the mirror meets the door, and misaligned bumper gaps like the 4th gen. And they had the cool trunk pull down(ala Cadillac) so you don't have to slam the hatch.
