Re: LT1 plug wiring HELP!!!

i am not sure on where to even start! i would save up for some longtubes and ypipe then do it all at once! if i had to do it over again. stock manifolds are a bitch! hope u have enuff time on ur hands to do this and plan for an 8 hour day, without a lift! GL

Re: LT1 plug wiring HELP!!!

plug wires on an LT1 are easy as crap once you figure it out. this is how you do it:

driver side: easy, no tutorial needed. get some zip ties to make sure they don't hit anything hot.

passenger side:
attach wire to opti, then make a direct 90 deree turn torwards the back of the car and run it through the motor mount right there. they pop out right under where they need to go. do this for the 3 rear plugs. the front plug wire must run via the stock route if using stock lengthed wires.

first time i did MSD 8.5mm's i ran them in the stock location, and it took like 10 hours because i had to keep re-doing it so they wouldn't get cut by the belts.

after i figured this alternative method out it takes literally less than 20 minuites start to finish on the passenger side.

I think I want to do it this way.Did you use the stock wire holders under the alternator to make the 90 degree turn? Is this for stock wires? Any pictures?

Re: LT1 plug wiring HELP!!!

nah i ended up ripping off nearly all of the stock wire holders, they won't hold the 8.5mm wires.

buy zipties and re-read my above instructions, then jack your car up and go to town

its really really easy, i'd much rather do plug wires on my old LT1 than my current LS1

pull the passenger side motor mount bolt....jack the motor up 2" and you can access ALL the plugs from the top with no problem.

Re: LT1 plug wiring HELP!!!

I did all my plugs and wires and used all the stock clips. Passenger side tough to get the larger wires in the holders....gotta remove alt. and idler pully, also loosen power steering pump. Tough to get them behind the PS line. Plugs on that side r not to bad. Do all from the top with 1/2 inch flexie ratched. Drivers side hardest one is 7 b/c the wire runs behond the manifold under a bracket. Patients is a virtue ny friend. If you have any experience turning wrenches it can be done. If not get the universal wires and run them how you want. Took me about 12 hours for plugs, wires, oil chg, and MSD install with MSD harness.
