Could have a problem with your sending unit for the gauge. It is IN the tank.

Mine is kinda finicky though also. If I am close to E, and put 20$ in, it goes to around 5/8 of a tank. When I put on the brakes it dips to 3/8. It annoys the hell out of me though.

What im confused about is I remember something about the 90 to 92's having a better baffle system in the tanks than the previous 3rd gens... But my 95 Baffeling seems to SUCK. Dips like crazy with the brakes.

Yah, my 94 Z28 has the same problem. Is it a bad sending unit design?

my gauge goes about 1/2 an inch past full when its full...it takes 100 miles for it to get to the F, and then 100 more miles down to 1/2, after half its like 50 miles or less to E...ive gotten used to it but i still hate it

Normal, but when it says E for empty it really does mean it.

As bad as the factory reported fuel level is, a garage changed my fuel pump (never again) and somehow managed to skew the sender / float even more. The gauge is pegged full for 80 miles and the tank runs empty at 1/8.

What's amazing is how the engineers knowingly produced a gas tank, sender and gauge that would give such errata and decided it would be okay. But then GM designed that fugly cobalt rear end and must have thought that it looked just fine.
