Question LS6 intake?

Would I need a tune after installing a LS6 (or the new Comp Cams' LSX) intake manifold? Or is just a simple bolt on?

Don't get a tune until you get more mods... A good tune isn't cheap, and it goes out the window when you start modding AFTER the tune.

But no, you shouldn't need a tune with the intake unless you get a larger throttle body. anything larger than 78mm you'll need a tune... but you shouldn't need a larger throttle body unless you're making serious horsepower (we're talking 550 at the wheels or better) or have a blower/turbo.

I haven't heard of this intake before. Did you mean the FAST LSX intake or did Comp Cams start making an intake also?

no tune required for the ls6 technically...however you'll have to do something to delete the EGR off the computer otherwise you'll have the eternal SES light.

however this won't affect performance any.

the LSx is way overkill for you current car unless you have ALOT of mods not listed. save the $400 extra the LSx is and buy more mods.

Chevy High Performance just did a dyno flog of 4 intakes for the LS1.

the engine stock (ls1 intake) made like 419hp to the crank, ls6 intake made 427hp, 6.0l truck intake and the FAST intake made nearly the same 427-428hp but the torque was 2 or 3 lbs higher than the ls6.

i would honestly say that for the price the ls6 is a damn nice performing intake...expect about 7-10hp to the wheels solid...more on modified h/c engines.

So the LS6 intake is a simple bolt on that would gain me about 7-10hp and no tuning is required. Correct? Thanks Teke, you are always helpful to me.

correct...well almost...

as i said...the only tuning required (use that term loosely) is to remove the SES light that will be triggered from removing the EGR system.

again, removing it and not gettting tuned off the computer will NOT affect performance.

With full exhaust (headers, y-pipe, catback) you can probably expect up to 18rwhp with the GM LS-6 intake. Not bad for a 2 hour, $375 job.

i think that number is a bit inflated...

the CHP test was on an engine already making almost 420hp...and they only gained 7-8hp

LS6 intake negates the reason for haveing an EGR valve right?

LS6 intake would get you about 5-7 rwhp.
