Question LS1 vs BMW M3 drag

Hello

I'm new to this forum and new to Camaros generaly and I believe Camaro is the most powerfull car for the price. LS1 indeed is very impresive.

Here are BMW M3 engine spec ( 3.2 L I6 )

343 bhp / 256 KW @ 7900 rpm
Torque: 365 Nm / 269 ft·lbf @ 4900 rpm
0-60 MPH - 5.1 seconds
1/4 Mile - 13.1@105 MPH

Has anybody raced an M3 with Z28?

They are a little low in torque but they can run their engines upto 9000rpm.

So wich will win 1/4 mile , both bone stock. Well maybe small exhaust ant intake tune for camaro.

Another question:

What do you think LS1 camaro's 1/4 mile time would be on NON drag surface, regular pavement. Wich would make Camaro spin its tires.

If there is a thread like this I'm sorry, there are just too many pages to browse and search engine has its flaws

Pretty much a driver's race. The Z28 has more power, but the M3 has better gearing. The longer the race, the more the Z28 will pull.
I street-raced an M3 once only because the guy was acting like an ***. It wasn't fair as my Z28 was pretty modded at that point and I left him for dead...

Honestly, the M3 might win in a quarter mile with the conditions stated in the first post. Pretty fast cars bone stock.

M3 ir about 3300 lbs , I believe its almost same weight as Z28 . Although Z28 looks bigger.
MY friends who raced M3 in 1/4mile on regular street surface, on that M3 takes low 14 to finish the race. I wonder what Z28 would run on regular surface.

The LS1 was under rated it makes ~345BHP.

Check the LSx specs sticky.....

Dragracing an M3 is a waste. Those cars are setup for roadracing. With less than $1000 invested, an LS1 F-body would destroy an M3 in a straight line pretty terribly. The I6 in the M3 is pretty much modded to the max (unless you have HUGE pockets) from the factory.

You can mod an LS1 up to around 400 crank horsepower with just bolt-ons.

Moving thread.... non-LS1 Tech related.

Isn't it even more then that? I see bone stock 6-speed LS1's dynoing 310, 315rwhp. The drivetrain has got to rob atleast 12% so that's easily over 350...

not many ls1 cars are doing 310-315rwhp stock. Some 01's and 02's but far a few. More like 300-310rwhp. the m3 isnt 4 drag, the z28 all the way

Yep, I'm sure. The LS1 F-body will dyno between 290-310rwhp, which will equate to roughly 350ish HP. The weight difference between the two will vary with options, but we'll say 100-200lbs tops. The BMW's gearing will help it offset the torque deficit out of the hole, but the F-body will pull hard in 3rd. Like I said, it comes down to driver, but the longer the race, the better the F-body will pull.

I'm not sure what to make of that comparison, but don't forget to factor in gearing...

Well if we look at LS1 z28 M6 , how will M3 be superior with gearing?

The reason I'm asking for this comparison is that I'm overseas and down here we dont have american muscle cars, or atleast not too many. We have alot of 4wheel drive turbos but that's another class. And M3 rules the class I'm planning to run with Z28. I wan't to have a basic idea what are my chances.

Well, I am not a BMW fanatic, but I believe that the M3's 5th gear is 1:1 with a .60ish OD in 6th and a rear gear of 3.60ish. Compare that with the Z28's 4th gear 1:1, double-OD and 3.42 rear gear. The short gears play into the BMW's higher redline and multiply torque. If you throw a set of 4.10s in the Z28 and can get it to stick, the BMW has no chance provided equal drivers...
