longtube header performance gains
longtube header performance gains
I just got long tube headers on ebay for $135
with gaskets bolts and everything. They are mandrel bent 1 5/8 primaries with 3 inch collectors. How much rear wheel hp and torque should I expect to gain?
For all brand longtube headers that are mandrel bent and 1 5/8 primaries with 3 inch collectors.....are the performance gains all just about the same? Or do certain brand headers make more power than others?
I've heard that tpi's had really crappy exhaust systems so i hope this was a good start to my new exhaust.

Re: longtube header performance gains
Headers are bent differently so tubes will be longer/shorter on different brands. Which kind did you get? On LT1s long tubes usually do somewhere around 20RWP give or take a few. On a TPI I'm not to sure about the gains, its a good start though.
Re: longtube header performance gains
I think they're just plain longtube's with no name......i wasnt worried about them not having a brand, becuse alot of times all you pay for is the name anyway
They seem to be very good quality and are identical to these in every way.....

Re: longtube header performance gains
got flowtech's tri y's not really good for any gains, just to make your rpm more flat and broader instead of going sky high for a lil while.. Get a x pipe to go behind that, hotrod mag says its' as good as running open headers without the noise.. DYNO - Proven...
Re: longtube header performance gains
as said above...all longtubes will result in the same horsepower...plus/minus a small amount depending on tube lenght. there is not a single brand that i've heard to make more than others.
and the hp gains are more dependant on the engine output that they are working with. put LTs on a 400hp small block and you'll see more than if you put them on a 225hp small block like your L98.
i would say the LTs and a good flowing exhaust and you'd see a solid 20hp, although you may notice a drop in low end torque. seems i remember the TPI cars don't like low backpressure, and need it to produce good torque. that could have been BS someone fed me when i was young and impresionable
what kind of exhaust are you planning?

Its a corvette tpi, so its a little bit more hp than the camaro L98's, not too much though.
This was the first step of my true dual exhaust and my plans for the rest of it are......3 inch pipes, x pipe, 2 gutted cats, and probably dynomax bullet mufflers unless i find a louder, cheap, and good flowing muffler i like better.
