Lingenfelter build worth it?

Ok...I know off the bat that this is pretty subjective, but I'm just looking for some insight.

I'm considering a rather extensive drivetrain (engine, tranny, rearend) refurbishment project in the near future. I'm investigating Lingenfelter and am considering there services for this project. I know that they have an outstanding reputation in the performance industry and in the end, I should have a very strong running...well built car. The question is...is it "worth" it all? I'm pretty much looking at a complete engine rebuild, tranny overhaul and rear end rebuild...so...it ain't going to be cheap, however, it will basically be a new car when I get it back.

Anyway...I'm just curious what kind of opinions people have on this type of "investment"...is it a waste of money or not.

Again...I know this is subjective...I'm just interested in opinions.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond.

ive always known lingenfelter to put out some pretty impressive performing machine, but at the same tiem, they also cost a pretty impressive amount. i think that if you put some actual thought and planning into it, you could build yourself an equally performing setup at a fraction of the cost.

If you're looking to get a "return" on your investment, then this is not the way to do it. A lot of people would consider anything Lingenfelter to be priceless. But, as you say, that's subjective.

They may be the best in the business! And I'm sure you'll be very happy with whatever they do for you. Obviously you're aware of the expense and prepared for it.

Sure, you can do it cheaper yourself. Or get somebody else to do it for cheaper. Is the peace of mind that comes from getting it done by the best worth it to you? Even though there is absolutely no way to recoup your investment? Is that "seat of the pants" difference worth it to you?

If money was not an object, I would love to have Lingenfelter doing the work on my car!

Re: Lingenfelter build worth it?

I can only say from 11 plus years experience with them that the 383 in my car was well worth the intial package price seeing as I've flogged it since 1995 running high 11s with no failures at all. The top end freshening last year was only to go faster. I did not send the car back to them as they no longer do any R&D on LT1 based motors and only have 2 cam choices (211/219 and 219/219) for the 383s. They built an over built motor which passed MDs emissions, got 24 mpg hwy, and ran 11s N/A all in a package you could drive everyday. Also back in 1995 there were not a whole lot of companies building emissions legal, reliable, fast LT1s. The were/are innovators. Hopefully, their quality and durablity lives long after Johns passing.

The bottom line is I have ran this thing for 11 years and its still kicking ***. Those of my friends who are on their 3rd and 4th motors have easily passed me in terms of money spent. If you want an emissions legal, fast, reliable ride, go to LPE...
