Keyless entry question inside

Hey guys I got a 99 Formula with keyless entry (duh). When I bought the car it came with two sets of keys and two keyless entry units. One is on my keychain and the other is on my wifes. Her keyless entry unit died suddenly and won't respond at all anymore. Now this wouldn't be a big deal since she could use the door key itself but that does not help her when she sets off the alarm (yes she did it twice now )

Anyway on to my question. Can this thing be replaced at any local Pontiac dealership? I don't see anyway to open it to look for a battery or anything so I am assuming it has to be done by GM or a Pontiac dealership. Anyone know what the deal/cost is?

Thanks in advance

When mine does that I just throw it on the ground a couple of times and it seems to work just about everytime!

Pry it apart and replace the battery. They just pop a part and press together. What is the number on the back side? I have a couple of these units will let go of cheap if the numbers match.

Radio Shack, Circuit City, Best buy, or a Interstate Batteries store has the batteries you need. The unit will pry apart with a pocket knife and it takes a coin cell batter the part number is "CR2032".

I got the unit apart and removed the battery. I'll stop by radio shack after work and get a new one. Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it.

Can these be picked up at the stealer? My car had them originally but they are long gone and I'd like to have one

You can get them at the dealer but I would try Auto Zone first. I've seen signs advertizing the remotes at the one I go to.

Try Ebay. I bought one dirt cheap and it's pretty easy to program the earlier OBD I cars too.
